As ‘A Dutiful Daughter’ (see Simone de Beauvoir: Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter, 1958) I had to learn the piano. But what really fascinated me was the saxophone.
During my first Semester at Uni (in Tübingen, Germany), I noticed a beautiful tenor saxophone in a local music shop. After admiring it for some time, I took my saved money and went into the shop. When the shop owner looked at me, he said I should first try it out to see if I could get a sound out of the sax. He was surprised that I had talent.
Later on, I got an additional baritone saxophone. Since then, playing the sax has been a creative outlet for me – similar to paint, brushes, and pens.
